INNOVATING...

Very recently, a group of young Akwa Ibom Entrepreneurs decided to be heard. For so long, Akwa Ibom remained a civil service state but these young entrepreneurs, some of them students in universities, made a step to change  the narrative. These entrepreneurs came together and made a niche for products and services created by Akwa Ibomites tagged "Made in Akwa Ibom". The Pedal Tap was one of the outstanding features of the day. It solves the problem of using hands to turn on the tap with the risk of touching a contaminated tap. With the Pedal Tap, one only has to pump with the foot to get water. An easier and safer alternative. Good luck to all young Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs. Keep breaking the mould and soaring!

HOW MANY HUSTLES DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE?

This post is to point out that having more than one hustle isn't a sin and therefore isn't something to be ashamed of. I’m prowling my numb, sleepy brain right now trying to come up with a believable figure that won’t make me seem lazy ; I want to impress, I want ‘wows’ from the readers, but then the question had conveniently said ‘Currently’. Right…currently, I stay at home and do what previously was my side gig but now my seeming main gig. I worked at a tech hub for the 9 to 5 category but that went side ways just weeks ago (you don’t want to know). And at that hub, I’d taken to supplying the office with drinks and snacks and that was lucrative for a time until side ways happened. I’m still a Quickteller agent though with no money in my agent wallet while marketers call to remind me that I have to make transactions, I keep answering “I will” (truly, I will), after all I can load my phone with fifty naira from the app. So, currently, I’m stuck uploading

HOW TO COOK A ₦500 SOUP

Wouldn’t it be nice to hallucinate that soup cooking with ₦500 is a no brainer?  Yes, it would – it would mean I’m the best home maker there is or that I took my home management classes in secondary school seriously or that the Incredible Burt Wonderstone holds no candle to my genius in magic. But that isn’t the case folks. Truth be told, the smaller the amount of money, the more brain waves you have to use and sometimes, even that isn’t enough. First off – there’s the kind of soup to go with. The problem is, even with the ridiculous amount of ₦500, we still want to have a palatable soup that will last for days. Impossible, since this isn’t the era of Christ and food miracles; so the cheapest soup for me would be okro, feeding one person, two at most. Second, will it need plenty or no palm oil, and what road stops (i.e beef, fish etc) will be needed? With ₦500 that’s not happening, except one goes for kpomo (cow skin), one can get those even for ₦50 ( in 2012, when

ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS

ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS "Diga!" And I'm awake with a start. My mother's voice has this effect on me, even in the deepest of sleeps, she's able to rouse me instantly. I rub my bleary eye, and look around my darkened room. My alarm clock, which I had set for 7:30am, also informed me it's FEB 14th. I scoff at that, rolling my eyes, the importance granted this day was just sooooo ridiculous. "Diga!" "I'm coming, Ma!" I screamed back, throwing my legs over the side of the bed and sliding down. Why was she even bothering to call me, when she knew I wouldn't do anything she asked. I still feel sleepy, my face weight seemed to be concentrated on my eye lids, nose and lips, even my morning breath is heavy. And then I hear the television blaring out a promotion for the special day. Valentine's day. I snorted derisively. I know you're wondering, who hates valentine's day? I don't hate the day, I
